Eagle Nest Lodge June 2016

It was eventful few days for GV and I as we tried to fit in a bunch of fun stuff before she left on vacation for a few weeks. Our next adventure was up Provo canyon, hiking to the ruins of Eagle Nest Lodge. Apparently It was a restaurant that sat on top of the famous Bridal Veil Falls, just a few miles up Provo Canyon. There used to be a sort of trolley or ski lift type machine that carried you to the top where you could eat and enjoy the view of the canyon. It was damaged by an avalanche and I believe a fire and no longer exists but the platforms and metal beams are still up there.

We started pretty early around 8:30 and made it to the top around 12:00. It is a some what strenuous hike, and a little more technical than your usual hike up Provo Canyon. It is pretty easy to arrive at the top of the first section of the waterfall but then after that, ascending requires ropes and cables and a little bit of endurance. The ropes and cables are already there for you and help you find the easiest way up. Once at the top of the second waterfall, you encounter a stream and meadow of wildflowers which is a really pretty spot and then from there you break off to the right through the trees, following the cable. Eventually you reach the rock face where you can see the remains of a fence that lined the edge of the cliff so viewers wouldn't fall. Follow this little path all the way to the edge of the peak and you'll find the remains of what used to be Eagle Nest Lodge.
